The project "Women Mayors' Link" in Republic of Moldova

The Action Group for the Equal Chances of South-East Europe Stability Pact initiated the launch of the local project "Women Mayors' Association" in all country members of the Stability Pact, financed by the Government of the Austria and Germany. The project will take place between May 2002- April 2004; its aim is to value the leadership skills of women mayors' in creating:
- international and regional cooperation, partnerships, improve of the children and women living conditions in local communities;
- a balance regarding the equal chances of women and men, also social concord in the developing of the local community.
On 26-27 November in Chisinau took place the "Women Mayors' Link" conference which announced the project launch in Republic of Moldova. At the conference were present 32 from 61 women mayors from Moldova.
The guests Liliana Sorrentino, member of OSCE Moldavian Mission and Mihai Perebinos, the chairmen of the Moldavian Mayors Alliance welcomed the project launch and encouraged the women mayors to take active part in the project.
At the conference, reports were presented by the experts:
Mr. Iulian Moraru, vice-president of the National Coordinator of Stability Pact - "The Stability Pact for South-East Europe and the Republic of Moldova participation at this regional process ";
Mrs. Maria Orlov, Ph.D. in Low - "The progress achieved in the field of legislative reforms regarding the Local Administration and Equal Chances";
Mrs. Laura Grecu, specialist in the Department of "Equal chances and family policies of the" Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of R.M. - "The progress achieved in government's stipulations regarding the Equality in Chances";
Mrs. Dina Loghin, the regional project coordinator of Women Mayors' Link, spoke to the audience about the necessity of creating a National Network of Women Mayors, about it's mission and its long or short time objectives, about joining the network and the establishment of working and communication methods;
The conference debates were based on the problems that women meet in rural places: home violence toward women and children, the social state of young women, as well as the necessity for women to re-qualify. The R.M.'s women mayors will try to solve the problems through this project, financing the regional projects. The Regional Board of the project "Women Mayors' Link" will select and financed 4 to 5 projects, the author of the projects will participate at the institutional cooperation meeting between the women mayors from countries members of Stability Pact, Canada, USA, Turkey and West European countries, which will take place on 4-8 June, 2003.
The Conference Participants decided to form the Women Mayors' Association with statute of NGO. Creating a working group to elaborate the statute.

Tabarna Svetlana - district Tighina, commune Baccealia;
Munteanu Valentina - district Ungheni, commune Hoginesti;
Patras Valentina - district Chisinau, commune Gratiesti.
