“Women Can Do It – Parliamentary Elections 2009”

Project purpose

The main purpose of the project is to support and prepare women that will candidate in the parliamentary elections of 2009 as candidates on political parties’ list, as independent candidates, and/or electoral agents within the campaign. Moreover, strengthening women’s capacities, knowledge and solidarity in order to include the problem of gender equality in the political parties’ platforms and agendas will be of great asset to women involved in political and public life. The second target group of the project is represented by the young women future voters or members of political parties who will be trained according to the WCDI Manual to actively participate in the 2009 elections.

As specific goals of WCDI would be:

Contribution to the percentage of women participation at the parliamentary elections of 2009;

Increased Gender awareness of young women future voters or members of political parties in the spirit of gender equality/of their democratic rights according to the electoral code, law regarding political parties/ of more young women participating in the political and public life

  • The president of the Party Women’s Organisation from parliamentary parties.
  • Young Women from political parties, NGOs, decision making bodies informed about their rights according to the Gender Equality Law and discriminatory actions based on gender, electoral code, law regarding political parties, CEDAW and the Final Comments for Republic of Moldova, Law on Domestic Violence (app. 240)
  • Participants at the Local Actions/Campaigns (NGO, Trade-Unions, Mass-media) – app. 400

Indirect beneficiaries

  • Women from education, health, social assistance and protection systems;
  • Entire civil society

Project duration and time plan

The duration of the Project WCDI – Parliamentary Elections 2009 will be 8 months.

The implementation is going to start on the 15th of August 2008 and will end on the 15th of April 2009

The total budget of the project is 41500 euro.
